Accessibility Statement

What this site was built to, and how to tell us if something is wrong.

The standard

This site is built to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That was a build requirement rather than an afterthought, and the decisions it drove are listed below.

What that meant in practice

  • Semantic landmarks and a skip-to-content link on every page.
  • One H1 per page, with a heading order that does not skip levels.
  • A visible focus ring at 2px with 2px of offset on every interactive element, never removed.
  • Touch targets of at least 44 by 44 pixels, including every footer link.
  • Menus and accordions built as real buttons carrying aria-expanded, not as div elements with click handlers.
  • The mobile menu is a genuine modal, with a focus trap and an Escape key that works.
  • Star ratings paired with a written equivalent, because a row of icons means nothing to a screen reader.
  • Alt text that describes what is actually in each photograph.
  • Form labels always visible and always associated, with errors announced inline rather than only colored.
  • Color contrast checked by measurement rather than by eye. Two palette values were darkened during the build because they failed, and the brand green is never used as text on a light background because it measures 1.7:1.
  • All motion respects prefers-reduced-motion, including the background video, which does not play at all if you have reduced motion turned on.
  • The site works without JavaScript: the forms submit and the content is all there.

Where we know it is imperfect

  • The background video on the home and towing pages is decorative and carries no information, but it does move. It is suppressed entirely under reduced-motion settings.
  • The interactive map is a Google embed, loaded only if you press the button. Once loaded its accessibility is Google's rather than ours, which is part of why it sits behind a button.
  • A full audit with assistive technology has not yet been carried out. Until it has, this statement describes intent and implementation rather than an independently verified result.
